Welcome to the home page for this
10th annual Spring Celebration of music
in York Region Schools
.

Music Alive is ten years old as a region wide music festival that involves Public, Catholic, Private Schools and community musicians. It was originally established as "Choirs Alive" by the York Region District School Board over 18 years ago. In the millennium year Choirs Alive became "Music Alive" as it expanded to include instrumental ensembles. At that time Music Alive was a project of Artslink, an initiative intended to connect schools and communities through the arts. Music Alive is now governed by CAYRE (Community Alliance for York Region Education) and it invites participation in all musical disciplines. The goals of the festival are to celebrate the joy of sharing musical experiences; to promote reciprocal learning from peers and colleagues; and to foster the growth of teachers and students in musicality and self-esteem.

Music Alive is uniquely positioned as a non-competitive, educational festival that offers participants the opportunity to receive a rating based on international standards. Music Alive spans over seven weeks after the March Break each year and it involves well over 14,000 musicians. It is financially supported by the private sector, school boards and participants. Music Alive is administered by a committee of volunteers drawn from industry, the community and our schools. In 2008 Music Alive became fully affiliated with MusicFest Canada.
